Sponsored by the French Ministry of Culture, the Médiathèque is a high-tech learning center. The building has four roughly parallel walls that extend into the landscape. The walls consist of 2 by 25-inch horizontal strips of wood, supported by steel tubes and separated by vertical glass panels. The layers of wood undulate and extend at various points to serve as sunshades, walls, and retractable furniture and shelving. The single-story building sits 3 feet below grade. It has a green roof that from two sides slopes down to the ground and merges with the surrounding greenery.
