Director of Interpretation and Research

Jen Masengarb joined CAF in 2000. In her role she directs CAF’s interpretive focus, serves as a subject matter expert in architecture and design, and develops new strategies for engaging adult and youth audiences. For 12 years she led CAF’s curriculum development projects, in addition to  developing workshops for students and teachers in grades K-12, training CAF’s volunteer docent corps and teaching adult education courses. She is the author of CAF’s three award-winning curricular resources – Schoolyards to Skylines: Teaching with Chicago’s Amazing Architecture, The Architecture Handbook: A Student Guide to Understanding Buildings and

Prior to coming to CAF in 2000, Jen worked at architectural firms, researched historic structures and taught high school in Slovakia. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Detroit Mercy, and a Master of Architectural History degree and Historic Preservation certificate from the University of Virginia.
