Golub & Company is a family-run business with deep Chicago roots. For more than 57 years, the company has built a strong reputation as a trusted developer and co-investor for many partners.

Golub and its affiliates have owned, leased or managed more than 50 million square feet of real estate properties in the U.S. and around the world, valued at more than $10 billion. Recent projects include Moment, a new luxury apartment building in Streeterville, and the acquisition of the iconic Tribune Tower, where plans for a transformative redevelopment are underway.

At CAC, we appreciate Golub’s hard work and dedication to our city and their willingness to work closely with us on Open House Chicago, not only as a site host, but as a sponsor. We were delighted to present Golub with this year’s Corporate Award at our 2017 No Small Plans Gala!

Here’s what three members of the company’s leadership team—CEO and President Michael Newman, Executive Vice President Lee Golub and Senior Vice President Paula Harris—had to say prior to receiving the award on April 6:

How has being a family business helped you succeed?

Paula Harris: We live by the motto that “Golub & Company is a family business that treats the business like a family.” What that means is we’re committed to the values of integrity, fairness and loyalty in everything we do – from the people and partners with which we collaborate to the finished projects. We’ve earned a reputation as one of Chicago’s most dynamic and successful family businesses because of those values, and we do our best to live up to them every day.

What kind of values do you see in CAC that align with the work you do?

Michael Newman: We admire and share CAC’s commitment to celebrating and advocating for Chicago as a center of architectural innovation and educating and inspiring the next generation to build vibrant communities. We strive to have a deep understanding of the communities where we develop buildings and to meet their needs through innovative, excellent design.

Why is it important for you to be a sponsor and site host for Open House Chicago?

Michael Newman: We understand that buildings are more than just static structures, they contain personal, cultural and institutional histories that can expand the lives of people who experience them. Buildings are spaces where people grow their families and their businesses, where leaders draft policies and enact change, where people learn, teach and create the art and work that shapes our society. Open House Chicago literally opens the doors of these spaces to all.

How does your work alongside CAC’s work help burnish Chicago’s image?

Lee Golub: We believe in supporting Chicago’s history as a beacon of architecture and design and in continuing those traditions to build and grow thriving communities in and around Chicago. Whether we’re building new towers that showcase the latest design capabilities or restoring and reimagining iconic Chicago buildings like Tribune Tower, we want to create vibrant, welcoming residences and productive, collaborative workplaces that will serve people for generations to come and make Chicago a place where people want to live, work and visit.

What does receiving the Corporate Award from CAC mean to you?

Paula Harris: We are honored to receive the 2017 Corporate Award from the Chicago Architecture Center. We believe the award is a testament to our philosophy and innovation in design, our respect for Chicagoans and Chicago’s architectural and cultural history, and our vision for a flourishing Chicago that’s admired around the world.
