The seventh-annual Open House Chicago (OHC) took place the weekend of Oct. 14–15, 2017. Despite record-setting October rainfall on Saturday, strong Sunday attendance helped set new records at OHC’s busiest sites.

Hope Tate is a vice president for JLL and general manager of the iconic Civic Opera Building at 20 N. Wacker Drive. She oversees all capital, operational and financial responsibilities at the building and manages tenant and client relationships.
Jerzy S. Kenar is the owner and resident artist of Studio Kenar, which he opened in 1985. He specializes in monumental sculpture, painting and mixed media installations, including paintings with sound.
Myrna Coronado-Brookover, senior vice president and general manager at JLL, has managed 77 West Wacker Drive for 16 years.
Larry Cope is a freelance graphic designer and longtime member of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church. He is the parish historian, member of the building and grounds committee and an alumnus of the church’s grammar school.

Héctor Duarte is one of Chicago’s most prolific muralists. Since moving to Pilsen from his native Michoacan, Mexico, in 1985, Duarte has participated in the creation of more than 50 murals. His work adorns schools, libraries and a CTA stop in Chicago.
Fr. Alexander Koranda is the new priest at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cathedral, the oldest Orthodox parish in Chicago and returning Open House Chicago site that has drawn in more than 5,000 visitors. Al Walavich is a Chicago tour guide who has served as the primary docent at the 114-year-old church in Ukrainian Village for nearly four years.
John Edel and Carolee Kokola lead Bubbly Dynamics, LLC, a social enterprise that transforms derelict industrial buildings into collaborative small business communities. Their most ambitious project, The Plant, is a former meatpacking plant turned urban farm and business incubator in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood.
Jim Rotche is the general manager/publisher of the Chicago Tribune’s suburban publications, including the Naperville Sun, Daily Southtown and Lake County News-Sun. Jim and his team welcomed thousands of visitors to Tribune Tower during Open House Chicago from 2011 to 2015.

The Archdiocese recently announced plans to close St. Adalbert, an OHC site for the past four years, and scaffolding surrounds its towers. However, a surprise $3 million donation from a former parishioner may yet spare the church from demolition.
The Shrine of Christ the King, a popular OHC 2014 site, was devastated by fire just before OHC 2015. The Archdiocese has transferred ownership of the Woodlawn church to the resident religious order, which will work to rebuild it.

Stony Island Arts Bank opens its doors on October 3, for the first time in almost three decades. On October 17-18, it will be among the 200 Open House Chicago sites you can visit for free.
