DIVISION 3  Replication: Construction Documents

Draw a set of construction documents for one of the following buildings below. A set of construction documents will be available for reference, provided by your teacher. You may create these drawings either by hand or using CAD software, such as Revit Architecture and AutoCAD.

Who is eligible to enter in this category?
Chicago Public School students enrolled in a first year architecture class. Any CPS high school student not registered in an architecture course is also welcome to enter this division.

Students in the second and third year of an architecture class are not eligible to enter this division.

FORMAT
Drawing size must be 18” x 24” center mounted on a 22” x 28” mat board.
Both sheets must be mounted overlapping each other on a single piece of mat board.
Backing must be 22” x 28” mat board (either black or white).
Lettering for titles should be 3/16” high.
Titles and scales should be placed under each drawing (e.g. plan, elevation, wall section).
For CAD projects, scale notations should be 3/32” high. Titles and scales should be placed under each drawing (e.g. plan, elevation, wall section) on each sheet.
Projects may not be submitted in teams.

TECHNIQUE: HAND-RENDERED
All lettering is to be freehand.
Typical architectural drafting standards and conventions are to be used throughout. You may indicate materials such as roofing, siding, bricks and floor tile used.
Drawings must be fully dimensioned.
No shading or rendering techniques may be used.

TECHNIQUE: DIGITAL
Drawings must be entirely computer generated.
Typical architectural drafting standards and conventions are to be used throughout. Material indications, such as roofing, siding, bricks and floor tile may be used.
Drawings must be fully dimensioned.
The drawing must be plotted on white paper with black ink.
No shading or rendering techniques may be used.
