Neighborhood Map

Historically the heart of the African-American middle-class in Chicago, Chatham’s landscape is dotted with evidence of the neighborhood’s rich culture, business community and political life.  Home to a historic bungalow district, it is a community of manicured lawns and well-kept single-family homes.  Architecture buffs will appreciate the many custom, mid-century homes that Chicago’s black business leaders and political elite built for themselves.

Long-time Chatham residents and activists are keeping this legacy alive and are committed to educating younger generations about why their neighborhood is worth fighting for.  They want Chicagoans to understand why we need to invest in the future of Chatham.

The Chatham Business Association is the primary program partner in the neighborhood. In addition to CBA, we work in collaboration with Mather’s More Than a Café and the Chatham Avalon Park Community Council.

CAF has developed a new Chatham tour in partnership with the Chatham Business Association along with co-partners Mather’s More than a Café and the Chatham/Avalon Park Community Council. This new tour gives a two-hour overview of the area's rich history.  MORE >
