"l" TRAIN TOURS

TOUR WITH THE BEST

Chicago’s "L" Train is the second longest rapid transit system in the country, and the best platform to observe architecture detail in Chicago.

The "L" Train line not only gave the “Loop” its name, but helped serve as a catalyst for the development of the business center of Chicago. Join our expert docents as they explore the city’s renowned architecture from over 20 feet above ground, and learn about the elevated train line as it evolved over its century-long life in the city.

World Class Docents

All tours are given by Chicago Architecture Foundation-certified volunteer docents who have received hundreds of hours of training about Chicago architecture and history. More than 450 docents lead more than 5,500 tours annually. Why? Because they love it. Our docents are what make CAF tours the very best in Chicago—come see for yourself.

Join CAF docent Mike McMains under the city’s iconic "L" tracks to learn about why the train was constructed above ground.
