Homeschool Groups
We offer a wealth of resources for homeschool groups. Check us out!
Field Trips All of our field trips are available to homeschool groups. We are happy to work with you to tailor our programs to meet the unique needs of home school groups:
- Timing – We can work with you to schedule a start and end time that will work with your schedule.
- Age range – We understand that homeschool groups are comprised of students across a variety of age levels. Let us know of your group composition, and we can work with you to customize the program to meet all of your students at their level.
Student River Cruise Redesigned for 2013, the 60-minute Student River Cruise now focuses on the technology and engineering of move-able bridges, the role of the river in Chicago's history and the architectural styles of the buildings along the river. On the newly-updated tour, students will have a chance to participate in an architecture scavenger hunt, collaborate with Mies van der Rohe on his next design through role play, and see Chicago's history up close – all from the boat deck Chicago's First Lady. Offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 10:30 am in May and October only. Tickets are just $15 each.
Exhibitions All of our exhibitions are free and open to the public. We invite you to stop by the Chicago Architecture Foundation to explore our dynamic exhibitions to learn more about issues relating to architecture and the built environment. Give us a call and we may arrange for a staff member or volunteer to greet your group and offer an overview of the exhibitions.
Curricular Resources Check out our award-winning K – 8 Teaching Resource, Schoolyards to Skylines, which offers 47 units of hands-on activities that will help your group explore the built world around them.
The Architecture Handbook: A Student Guide to Understanding Buildings is an award-winning high school curriculum—the first of its kind in the country—that teaches students the fundamentals of architectural design.
Other youth programs For high school-age students, join us at our Saturdays in the Studio workshops. These hands-on workshops help students learn skills related to architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning from professionals working in those fields.
