Visitor Services Volunteer PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Visitor Services Volunteers provide a welcoming entrée to the Chicago Architecture Foundation and introduce guests to the wide range of programs (tours, lectures, special events, etc.) offered by CAF.

Visitor Services Volunteers
Visitor Services Volunteers welcome visitors to CAF's exhibit, Chicago: You Are Here. Volunteers explain the exhibit and answer questions about Chicago and its architecture. CitySpace Volunteers further assist the public by providing information about CAF tours and other programs, as well as the benefits of becoming a CAF member. During the busy tour months (April through November), Visitor Services Volunteers work in the CAF Shop assisting the Tour Department with the distribution of audio devices and providing information about CAF tours and membership.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Chicago Architecture Foundation Visitor Services Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and have an interest in architecture and volunteerism. As a welcoming presence to CAF, these volunteers must have a pleasant and engaging personality. Some basic computer skills are desirable. Visitor Services Volunteers are needed seven days a week for four-hour shifts during the mornings, and/or three-and-a-half hour shifts during the afternoons.

Interview

An interview is required for all Visitor Services Volunteer applicants.

Orientation

All Visitor Services Volunteers are required to participate in an orientation training session offered six times a year. The orientation provides a comprehensive overview of CAF, its mission and programming, and a review of the Visitor Services Volunteer responsibilities.

Visitor Services Volunteers must also observe one shift prior to volunteering. Additional training is required to become a Chicago Model City Volunteer.

Membership

All Visitor Services Volunteers are required to become an Individual member of the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

Cost

There is no other cost to participate in the Visitor Services Volunteer program besides your membership fee.

Benefits

Volunteer benefits are based on the number of hours you work on behalf of CAF. Benefits include discounts at the CAF Shop and for CAF programs, membership and special volunteer-only events.

Unfortunately, parking and travel expenses incurred by volunteers are not reimbursed.
