At Home: Relax and Retreat to the Beach!

Please join Chicago Architecture Foundation and AIA Chicago for a special behind-the-scenes discussion/tour of this modern Michigan City beach house near the Lake Michigan shoreline. Dr. Nancy Church and Charles Jett commissioned John DeSalvo Design to create a beach retreat away from hectic city life to entertain friends, garden, and relax. Hear about the aesthetic concept for the design and the building process on this sand dune with the homeowners, architect, and contractor for this 2011 AIA Small Project Award Winning Structure. Space is limited to 50 participants and registration must be completed in advance. Program includes lunch and transportation to and from the house from Chicago Architecture Foundation.

TIME: (bus departs at CAF, 224 S. Michigan Ave.) 10am, program 11am-1pm, (bus returns 2pm)

COST: $50 CAF and AIA members/$60 non-members (includes box lunch)

LOCATION: Program location is Michigan City, Indiana (address shared following registration). Bus will depart from Chicago Architecture Foundation, 224 S. Michigan Ave.

AT HOME: Nine Square in Northbrook

Please join us for a special behind-the-scenes discussion/tour of "Nine Square", a Citation of Merit award winner under the AIA Distinguished Building Award program. Dan Wheeler, FAIA of Wheeler Kearns Architects, Sherry Koppel (Sherry Koppel Design), Jake Goldberg (Goldberg General Contracting) and the home owner will discuss the design, bid, and construction process, the challenges presented and the solutions found. Space is limited to 50 participants and registration must be completed in advance. Refreshments will be served.
