CODE OF CONDUCT FOR CAC CAMP PARTICIPANTS:

CAC is committed to each student’s success in learning within a caring, responsive, and safe environment – both online and in-person - that is free of discrimination, violence, and bullying. Our team works to ensure that all students have the opportunity and support to bring their best to our learning community.
In addition to the Code of Conduct below, CAC leaders may choose to develop an additional Code of Conduct in partnership with students on the first day of the camp or program.

Participant Code of Conduct:
• Listen to staff.
• Be positive and have fun!
• Respect staff and other participants.
• Respect CAC property, facility property, and digital resources (ie. virtual
platforms).
• Use studio materials appropriately and safely.
• Participate in activities both online and independently.
• Use appropriate language; no swearing, foul or demeaning language.
• Follow "Acceptable Use" guidelines when you use computers.
• Follow staff instructions on field trip days; act appropriately during field trip
activities.
• Ask for help from CAC Camp Leaders or a supporting adult if you need it!
• Clean up after yourself.

Virtual Code of Conduct:
• CAC Virtual Programs will be using Zoom, an online video conferencing
service, to bring participants interactive architecture and design lessons.
Please review the following guidelines in order to maintain a safe
experience for all participants:
CAC staff will monitor the virtual session video and chat. CAC is not
responsible for the supervision of campers participating in virtual programs.
Support and supervision by adult caregivers is required for successful
virtual camp participation.
• Zoom sessions will be recorded for viewing by students who were unable
to attend that session or for the attending students to review again if
needed.
• We will send you a link to join the Zoom class meeting. You will NOT need
to set up a Zoom account or input any information except for the student’s
first name and last initial. Please go to zoom.us for more details about the
system.
• Virtual meetings will be live and interactive. During live sessions,
participants may hear and see anything within the audio and camera
viewing areas. Please make all household members aware of this. Please
make sure your student is in a quiet place where a parent can monitor the
session. Turning the camera towards a wall can help control the area.
• Sound and voices can be captured by your device’s microphone and heard by others in the Zoom meeting. Instructors will mute participants for
portions of the session, and unmute participants during discussions and to
hear questions.
• Be aware that there may be online media that contain references, ads, or
links from third parties. CAC is not associated with those third parties.
Check your personal web settings to minimize ads.
• Sharing Zoom meeting links and passwords is strictly prohibited.
• Personally recording any CAC session is prohibited.
• Only registered participants are permitted to watch/participate in the
sessions. Recorded session may not be shared or distributed.
• Participant user names should not be inappropriate, offensive, or vulgar in
nature and must include clearly identifiable information about the registered
participant, such as first and/or last name.
• Background images may be used, if desired, but cannot be inappropriate,
offensive, or vulgar in nature and must not pose as a distraction to others
in class. Teachers reserve the right to disable a participant’s video, if
deemed necessary.
• Zoom Chat: Texts unrelated to the lesson are distracting to both the
teacher and class, therefore use the Zoom chat feature only for texts
relating to the lesson. Instructors reserve the right to disable all chat
functionality, if deemed necessary.

These guidelines are intended to create a safe and positive learning environment for all participants. All participants must abide by the Participant Code of Conduct and Virtual Code of Conduct as outline above. Should a participant not be in compliance with the Code of Conducts, CAC staff report the issues to the parent/guardian, the appropriate staff as outlined in the Discipline Guidelines. Failure to follow these rules may result in denial of program participation privileges and/or damage fee.

Discipline Guidelines:
Should a participant choose not to follow the agreed upon Code of Conduct, here are the Discipline Guidelines for participation in a virtual program that staff will follow to handle the situation:

• Step 1: 1st Verbal Warning;
• Step 2: Immediate removal from virtual program component(s). Behavior
Warning report sent home. Inform VP of Education in writing about the
behavior warning
• Step 3: Conference with Parent in person or by phone
• Step 4: Meeting with the VP of Education, necessary staff,
parent(s)/caregivers, and child. At this time, suspension or expulsion may
be discussed.

Please review these guidelines with your child. The staff will review these rules with your child at the beginning of the camp or program.
By typing my name below, I acknowledge and agree to uphold the CAC Code of Conduct and Discipline Policy:

Student Acceptable Use Policy

The Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) is offering access to virtual platforms for student use. This document contains the Acceptable Use Policy for use of all platforms, computers, software and/or Internet access (CAC Network) while working with a CAC program.

This form needs to be reviewed and completed prior to participation in a program that includes use of digital devices and/or access to the Internet as a requirement of the program. Participants under the age of 18 need to have this form completed by a parent or guardian.

A. Educational Purpose

1. CAC access to computer devices and the Internet has been established for a limited educational purpose. The term "educational purpose" includes classroom activities and activities undertaken under the direction of a CAC instructor.

2. The CAC Network has not been established as a public access service or a public forum. CAC has the right to place reasonable restrictions on the material you access or post through the system.

3. You may not use CAC Network for commercial purposes. This means you may not offer, provide, or purchase products or services through CAC Network.

4. You may not use CAC Network for political lobbying. But you may use the system to communicate with elected representatives and to express your opinion on political issues.

B. Program Participant Internet & Software Access

1. You may have access to Internet World Wide Web information resources.

2. You may be provided with an individual digital account to enable your full participation in the program.

3. You may be provided a link and password to a secure group chat or video conference platform facilitated by CAC staff. This link and password must not be shared.

C. Unacceptable Uses
The following uses of The CAC Network are considered unacceptable:

a. You will not post personal contact information about yourself or other people. Personal contact information includes your home address, telephone, school address, etc.
b. You will not agree to meet with someone you have met online.
c. You will not use foul or demeaning language (cyber bullying) in any group virtual discussions or chat rooms. You promptly disclose to your CAC Instructor any message you receive that is inappropriate or makes you feel uncomfortable.
d. You will not privately chat or meet with other participants or adults in an unsupervised virtual setting.

2. Illegal Activities

a. You will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to The CAC Network or to any other computer system through The CAC Network or go beyond your authorized access. This includes attempting to log in through another person's account or access another person's files. These actions are illegal, even if only for the purposes of "browsing".

b. You will not use The CAC Network to engage in any other illegal act, such as arranging for a drug sale or the purchase of alcohol, engaging in criminal gang activity, threatening the safety of a person, etc.

3. System Security

a. If you are assigned an account you are responsible for your individual account and should take all reasonable precautions to prevent others from being able to use your account. Under no conditions should you provide your password to another person.

b. You will immediately notify the CAC Instructor if you have identified a possible security problem.

c. Do not download any software. This will avoid inadvertent spread of computer viruses.

4. Inappropriate Language & Privacy

a. You will not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening, or disrespectful language in public messages, private messages, and material posted on Web pages.

b. You will not engage in personal attacks, including prejudicial or discriminatory attacks.

c. You will not harass another person. Harassment is persistently acting in a manner that distresses or annoys another person. If you are told by a person to stop sending them messages, you must stop.
d. You will not re-post a message that was sent to you privately without permission of the person who sent you the message.

5. Plagiarism

a. You will not plagiarize works that you find on the Internet. Plagiarism is taking the ideas or writings of others and presenting them as if they were yours.

6. Inappropriate Access to Material

a. You will not use The CAC Network to access material that is profane or obscene (pornography), that advocates illegal acts, or that advocates violence or discrimination towards other people (hate literature).

b. If you mistakenly access inappropriate information, you should immediately tell your teacher or another school. This will protect you against a claim that you have intentionally violated this Policy.

c. Your parents should instruct you if there is additional material that they think it would be inappropriate for you to access. The school fully expects that you will follow your parent's instructions in this matter.

Additional required forms including a Consent for Participation, Hold Harmless Agreement, and Media Release will be sent to families prior to the start of camp.
