Film Screening and Discussion: 40th: The Story of Bishop William Roberts and Roberts Temple
The documentary explores the social, cultural and architectural history of the church and its role in the Great Migration; the expansion of Chicago's gospel music landscape; and the church's role as the setting for the catalytic funeral of Emmett Till.
This screening will be followed by a panel featuring the filmmaker Lora Branch; Dr. Marvel Parker, Executive Director of the Emmett Till and Mamie Till Mobley Institute; Sharon Roberts Hayes of the Roberts Temple Preservation Project and other invited guests. Speakers will discuss the impact of Roberts Temple on Chicago's Bronzeville community and its enduring legacy.
