Instruments for Urban Production

Over the past 150 years architects have approached the city through the lens of geometry, symbolism, hygiene, collage, contextualism, technology, density and landscape, among others. Recently, a whole host of new forces from global economics to environmentalism are sponsoring a new set of instruments through which architects may explore the city. This panel discussion identifies some of these new frameworks and critically evaluates their instrumentality in the production of new urban form.

Please join us for a panel discussion on ‘Instruments for Urban Production’ with five unique perspectives on theory and design. The panel discussion will be followed by a book launch & reception for The Petropolis of Tomorrow, edited by Neeraj Bhatia and Mary Casper (Actar / Architecture at Rice, 2013). Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
