LunchTalks@CAF: Existing + New: Adaptive Reuse of 5757 South University Saieh Hall for Economics

Ken Maschke, P.E., S.E., LEEP AP, Thornton Thomasetti

This adaptive reuse project created 23,000 square feet of new building space within the historic constraints of the Chicago Theological Seminary, facilitating its transformation into The Saieh Hall for Economics at the University of Chicago. To find this new space, 5,200 tons of building weight were underpinned and 10,000 cubic-yards of soil were excavated within the confines of the buildings' courtyards, while preserving the seminary's historic features.
