The Chicago Architecture Center offers a variety of camps throughout the summer. Below are the offerings for 2023:

City of Neighborhoods Teen Program

Dates: Tuesday, June 20—Thursday, June 29

Ages: Students entering 10th grade—12th grade

Description:  This seven-day summer program is designed to engage students in place-based research and community engagement. Participants will dive into the rich history of Chicago neighborhoods, developing skills in public speaking, digital storytelling and interview techniques. Students who complete the program are eligible for a $600 stipend.

Designers Assemble!

Dates: Monday, June 26—Friday, June 30

Ages: 11—14

Description:  Join the CAC for a weeklong exploration on how the design process can be utilized when thinking of ways to heal habitats. Campers will discover how design and architecture can be used to address the environmental needs of one of four habitats. They will share their future visions for these habitats through the creation of a comic book.

Eco-tecture

Dates: Monday, July 10—Friday, July 14

Ages: 8—10

Description:  Join the CAC for a weeklong exploration into the architecture of animal habitats in zoos and aquariums. Campers will explore how architects take on the challenges of replicating and integrating healthy ecosystems for animals. Campers will take on the challenge of designing one of four possible habitats to explore the importance of design and architecture in both nature and in urban settings. Centering the design process campers will create dioramas of their proposed designs.

GB! Summer Camp (In-Person)

Dates: Monday, July 24—Friday, July 28

Ages: 12—15

Description:  Join us in the exploration on how the design process can be utilized when thinking of ways to heal habitats. Girls will discover how female designers and architects have address the environmental needs of natural habitats in their practices. The girls will share their future visions for habitats through the creation of a comic book that centers female superheroes.

GB! Summer Camp (Virtual)

Dates: Monday, August 14—Friday, August 18

Ages: 12—15

Description:  Join the CAC for a weeklong virtual exploration into the architecture of animal habitats in zoos and aquariums. Girls will explore how female architects take on the challenges of replicating and integrating healthy ecosystems for animals. They will take on the challenge of designing one of four possible habitats to explore the importance of design and architecture in both nature and in urban settings. Inspired by leading female architects, campers will create dioramas of their proposed designs.
