One time only!
The "Emerging Chicago" bus tour changes focus annually to highlight cutting-edge design by architects who are creating our city of the future. The 2009 tour concentrates on sustainability and durability found in award winning urban residential designs. "Green" components and quality construction are combined in these structures. The designers or representatives of their firms will be on hand to discuss their projects.
Sites featured this year:
Yannell Residence (Farr Associates), a zero net energy home applying for LEED platinum certification incorporating all possible sustainable features; Brick Weave House (Jay Hoffman, Studio Gang), an Architecture Record House of 2009, that repurposes and reinvents a former brick and timber stable, and Claremont House (Brad Lynch, Brininstool+ Lynch), winner of a Chicago AIA 2008 Design Excellence Award, a house of traditional materials with an open first floor which unites front and the back yard green roof of the garage via transparent glass panels.
We will drive by Concrete House (John Ronan Architects), finalist in Chicago AIA 2008 Design Excellence Awards and Urban Sandbox (Osterhaus McCarthy), Grand Prize Winner Midwest Region, Best in American Living Awards sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders and the Professional Builder Magazine, a 5000 sq ft house with 2000 sq ft of terraces.
