This tour recounts the remarkable events that occurred in Chicago in 1893 and their lasting impact upon us: the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 and the emergence of America’s first mass murderer. The Devil in the White City Companion Bus Tour is based upon Erik Larson's bestselling book and is intended to accompany, or be a companion, to it and expand upon many of its elements. Visit the Fair through a slide presentation featuring the many period photographs taken of it. Following the slide presentation we will explore by bus several of the buildings and places that most Fairgoers would have seen. We will pay particular attention to the profound effect that the Fair had upon the people’s lives at the time and how, in turn, people’s changing lifestyles shaped this built environment. Those who have read the book will learn more about the circumstances surrounding the Fair. Those who haven’t read The Devil in the White City will find this tour to be an introduction to those fascinating events.
CAF also gives a walking tour called White City Revisited that explores the site of the fair and helps recreate the amazing events that took place in the summer of 1893.
