The Illinois Institute of Technology is home to the world’s largest group of buildings designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the most influential figure in American Modernist architecture. This walking tour traces the evolution of campus development through three periods: before 1938, during Mies’ tenure as head of the IIT School of Architecture from 1938 to 1958, and after 1958. The tour also visits the sites of recent projects, including the McCormick Tribune Campus Center designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, and the Helmut Jahn-designed State Street Village residence hall. The tour is operated with the cooperation and assistance of the Illinois Institute of Technology www.iit.edu.
