Current Projects: The Changing Face of Fulton Market

Hear from people on the front lines of design and development in the Fulton Market district. Projects that will be discussed include a mid-rise office building coming to 210 N. Carpenter St. and the future corporate headquarters of McDonald’s, which is moving into the footprint of Oprah’s former Harpo Studios. Both projects will inject mixed uses and a large daytime workforce into an already booming district.

Program Speaker: Erin Lavin Cabonargi

Erin Lavin Cabonargi is the director of construction for Sterling Bay. She oversees various aspects of office, retail, urban campus and adaptive reuse projects in Chicago’s downtown and Near West Side. Prior to her current job, Erin served as executive director of the Public Building Commission of Chicago, where she led a capital program of more than 200 projects that was delivered on time and below budget. Erin has a Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

Program Speaker: Lamar Johnson

Lamar Johnson is co-managing principal of Gensler’s North Central region. He is a registered architect in 37 states and provides leadership to the company’s Chicago, La Crosse, Detroit and Minneapolis offices. His commitment to social responsibility and sustainable design contributed to Gensler receiving the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership Award. Lamar earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental design and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado.

Program Speaker: Jay Longo

Jay Longo is a principal at Solomon Cordwell Buenz. He has more than 20 years of experience and his portfolio includes office, urban mixed-use development and institutional projects. His design work focuses on high-performance façades, digital fabrication and sustainable strategies for clients worldwide. Jay is a founding partner of the Longo Design Workshop and has held leadership positions at Gensler and Forum Studio. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan.
