Guest Lecture: Sagrada Familia in the Making
Additional time just added! The Basilica de la Sagrada Família in Barcelona is one of the world's great buildings. Hear noted engineer Tristram Carfrae explain how architect Antoni Gaudi’s masterpiece—under construction since 1882—will be completed with state-of-the-art practices.
Work on this intricate basilica influenced by Gothic and Byzantine cathedrals is nearly 70 percent complete. The final phrase will deliver the fantastical stonework that Gaudi envisioned, but in ways he could not imagine. Tristram Carfrae, deputy chairman of Arup, will explain how Gaudi’s remarkable creative genius will be realized with advanced structural engineering.
Program Speaker: Tristram Carfrae
Tristram Carfrae is a leading structural designer and deputy chairman of Arup. He has been responsible for the structure of an array of award-winning buildings during his 35 years with the firm, both in Australia and the UK. He is skilled at integrating engineering and architecture to provide holistic solutions. Tristram is one of 40 Arup Fellows and was recently awarded the Gold Medal award by the Institution of Structural Engineers.
