LunchTalks@CAF: CBD: Using Data and Computation to Understand 21st Century Cities

Charlie Catlett, Senior Computer Scientist, Argonne; Director, Urban Center for Computation and Data, University of Chicago

The Urban Center for Computation and Data (UrbanCCD) is creating a growing network of collaborative projects aimed at harnessing the power of computation and data analytics to better understand cities. Charlie Catlett, UrbanCCD founding director, will provide highlights of UrbanCCD's work using computational modeling to project the impact of urban design choices over decades, applying data analytics to discover leading indicators to enable cities to move from reactive to proactive policies, and the use of sensors and information systems embedded in the built environment to support environmental sciences, infrastructure engineering, and new modalities for human interactions with one another and with the City.
