LunchTalks@CAF: Innovative Landscape Architecture in Chicago – Palmisano Park and Current Projects

Ernest C. Wong, FASLA, APA, Principal and Hana Ishikawa, Design Director, Site Design Group Ltd

For the first half of the 20th century, Henry Palmisano Park was a privately-owned, 380-foot deep limestone quarry. It was later sold and converted into a landfill for construction waste for the City of Chicago. As a joint project between three City of Chicago agencies, this 27-acre site has been transformed into an active and educationally focused environmental park that includes nature trails, wetland habitat, native plantings, recycled materials, bird and fish habitats, and bio-retention. In this talk, site design group, ltd., an award-winning landscape architecture and urban design firm known for innovative work such Mary Bartelme Park and Ping Tom Memorial Park, will discuss the design, process, and challenges of Palmisano Park and selected in-progress work.
