Members Only Travel Program: Springfield, Illinois
Join us for an exciting, architecture-rich trip to Springfield, the state capital of Illinois. Our two-day journey will take us to a pair of treasured Frank Lloyd Wright homes and to Springfield’s Greek Revival Old State Capitol building. We’ll also tour Abraham Lincoln’s historic home, the President Abraham Lincoln Museum, and the Lincoln Tomb & War Memorials State Historic Site.
DAY 1
Our journey begins with a short drive to Kankakee, Illinois, for a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's B. Harley Bradley House. The Bradley House, designed in 1900, came at the beginning of Wright's Prairie Style period. Next, we continue on to Springfield to explore a local treasure, the FLW-designed Dana Thomas House.
Afterward, we'll visit the historic home of President Abraham Lincoln. For 17 years, Lincoln lived there with his family in the only home he ever owned, before making his historic move to Washington and the White House. Next up is a tour of architect John F. Rague's Old State Capitol building, where both Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama announced their candidacy for President of the United States.
President Abraham Lincoln Springfield, a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, will provide our accommodations for the evening.
DAY 2
We’ll enjoy breakfast at Lindsay's Restaurant in the hotel. Then it's off to an architecture tour of the President Abraham Lincoln Museum, designed by architects Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK) and exhibit designers BRC Imagination Arts. Following our tour, you’ll have time to explore the museum on your own.
After lunch, we'll experience a walking tour of the Lincoln Tomb and War Memorial, President Lincoln's final resting place.
Please note: There is extensive walking during some of the tours on this trip. Walking tours offer little to no time for sitting. Please remember to bring comfortable walking shoes.
Cost includes round-trip transportation from CAF to Springfield, Illinois, hotel accommodations, admission fees for tours, transportation to and from tour sites while in Springfield, two breakfasts, one lunch and one dinner.
Cancellation and Refund Policy (to be made in writing)
In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel your participation for the Springfield, Illinois, trip, the following terms will apply: Reservations cancelled up to and including 90 days prior to departure will incur a $50 administrative fee. Later cancellations will be subject to the following charges: 40 to 89 days before scheduled departure 50% of tour cost; 7 to 39 days prior to departure the total cost of the trip, less any recoverable sums from independent providers or services, accommodations and the like; 6 days or less, including no-shows, or early return from the trip will result in forfeiture of 100% of the trip cost.
