Discover stunningly beautiful Fort Sheridan, a residential area just north of Chicago with more than 60 buildings designed by Holabird and Roche.

5 Hours
Chicago Architecture Center, 111 E. Wacker Dr.*

From 1892 until 1993, the Fort served as the home and training grounds to soldiers who fought in the Spanish War, Civil War, World War I, World War II and Operation Desert Shield. In the 1990s, these structures were re-purposed to serve as family homes and a school for young musicians. Highlights include seeing General Patton’s home; homes for doctors who tended to Influenza patients; the Fort’s barracks, kitchens and firehouse, which are now townhouses; buildings that once stored ammunition and housed prisoners of war; and the serene Post Cemetery.

  • Guests have the option to meet in Chicago at CAC, or at Fort Sheridan's Rothblatt-Amrany Fine Art Studio, 912 Lyster Rd.
  • Parking is available at Rothblatt-Amrany Fine Art Studio one-half block south of the building (Building has a metal sculpture in front).
