Travel along one of the most famous highways in the United States, Route 66, on a scenic day trip led by a CAC docent. As America celebrates the highway’s history and anniversary, explore how Route 66 shaped travel, tourism and roadside architecture across the Midwest and beyond.

The tour begins in Chicago and follows the early path of Route 66 south, with stops in Joliet and Wilmington. Along the way, hear music from the 1920s and learn about the era’s fascination with the automobile and the rise of the roadside motel. The tour includes lunch at the historic Old Route 66 Family Restaurant, offering a classic diner experience along the route. The day concludes in Pontiac with a visit to the Route 66 Association Hall of Fame & Museum, where exhibits celebrate the people, places and culture that continue to keep Route 66 history alive for new generations of travelers.
