Architect Talk: Elias Kalach of Vertebral
Vertebral is an architecture studio known for its thoughtful use of materials and designs that respond to their surroundings. The firm approaches architecture as a way to highlight a site's existing character, incorporating elements such as reclaimed timber, existing structures and native landscapes into its projects. Primarily focused on residential work, the studio’s completed and ongoing projects span a range of settings, from urban neighborhoods to coastal, rainforest and desert environments.
Following the lecture, architect, curator and educator Iker Gil, founder of MAS Studio and the nonprofit MAS Context, joins Elias for a conversation about the role of art in architecture, Vertebral’s approach to contributing to Mexico’s modernist and contemporary design legacy and how architects can build partnerships beyond their clients to support design excellence.
Prior to the lecture, attendees are invited to a 5 p.m. reception outside the CAC Lecture Hall with light bites and refreshments.
