Living Tall: What Will Make Tall Buildings More Habitable?

Join CAF and program partner The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) for this lively discussion and rapid-fire presentations from the four panelists.

Program Moderator: Antony Wood

Antony Wood is the executive director of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a position he has held since 2006. His passion for tall buildings developed in the 1990s, when he was working as an architect in the UK and Asia. Antony is a professor at Illinois Institute of Technology, the author of numerous publications in the field of tall buildings and a speaker at conferences around the world.

Program Speaker: Jim Burnett

Jim Burnett is the founder of The Office of James Burnett, which he started in 1989. His firm’s projects in Chicago include The Park at Lakeshore East and the landscaping surrounding River Point. Jim was named a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2004 and received the ASLA Design Medal in 2016. He holds a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University.

Program Speaker: Chan-Li Lin

Chan-Li Lin is a partner at Rafael Viñoly Architects, where he has worked for more than 25 years. His portfolio includes a wide range of projects for universities, municipalities and private clients in the U.S., the Netherlands and Japan. He is currently serving as project director for One Grant Park. Lin received a master’s degree in architecture and a bachelor’s degree in art and design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Program Speaker: Jim Loewenberg

James Loewenberg is the co-CEO at Magellan Development Group LLC. He has designed and developed large residential towers in Chicago like Ontario Place, One East Delaware Place, One Superior Place and The Park Millennium. He also developed several residential buildings and the six-acre public park in Lakeshore East. James received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Program Speaker: Rick Pulling

Rick Pulling is the vice president of sales for the Otis Global Major Projects Group, which coordinates large and complex projects around the world. Since joining Otis in 1983, Rick has held domestic and international positions in service, new equipment, product management, construction, engineering, marketing and product strategy. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in industrial engineering and works out of the Otis world headquarters in Connecticut.
