City data isn’t new—architects and planners have long sought ways of quantifying and representing urban design issues. Early data on Chicago and its citizens was collected, analyzed, and visualized by hand—a time and labor-intensive processes. Masengarb will explore how designers such as Daniel Burnham and activists at Hull House used data to visualize and solve city problems.
