This is a one-day, site-based workshop that will use the architecture of the South Shore neighborhood to describe the building types, their styles, and the urban plan within which they were built to enhance understanding of this significant Chicago community. The program will include a morning presentation at the South Shore Cultural Center, followed by a box lunch and an early afternoon walking tour to see, examine, and discuss some of the buildings in greater detail. This program will be led by Timothy Wittman, faculty member in the graduate Historic Preservation program at the School of the Art Institute, and a member of the Chicago Historic Resources Survey team that helped define and advance the designation of the Jackson Park Highlands as an official Chicago Landmark district.
