As Chicago prepares for the Obama Presidential Center, hear from architect Richard Olcott (Ennead Architects) and landscape architect Mary Margaret Jones (Hargreaves Associates). They were key to the vision and design of the Clinton Presidential Center.
Olcott and Jones worked on the Clinton Presidential Center (2004), situated in Little Rock, Arkansas on 17 acres along the Arkansas River. They will discuss the complexities of realizing a place that is part museum, part archives and part legacy of an outgoing president. Olcott and Jones will share lessons learned and what takeaways can be applied to the forthcoming Obama Center in Jackson Park. Noted architectural commentator Reed Kroloff serves at the night’s host and interviewer.
As president and senior principal at Hargreaves Associates, Jones has led a number of the firm’s award-winning projects around the globe. She oversees offices in San Francisco, New York City and Cambridge, MA. Jones is the Prince Charitable Trust Fellow in Landscape Architecture of the American Academy in Rome and current chair of the board of trustees. She is also a past visiting critic in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Design School and is a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Richard Olcott is design principal at Ennead Architects, where he creates award-winning buildings for cultural, academic and governmental institutions. Recent notable projects include Stanford University Bing Concert Hall, Yale University Art Gallery expansion, Penn State Dickinson School of Law, Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, Clinton Presidential Center and Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall. Olcott is a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, past commissioner of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and recipient of the American Academy in Rome’s Rome Prize Fellowship.
