Daytime Talk: Renovating Mies' McCormick House

McCormick House is a one-story, steel-and-glass home built in the western suburb of Elmhurst in 1952 for Robert Hall McCormick, Jr., who served as the sales agent of Mies’ 860-880 Lake Shore Drive apartment towers. An addition to the Elmhurst Art Museum in 1997 included a new corridor that linked the museum to the house, but obscured the home’s main façade. Join John McKinnon, the museum’s executive director, as he reviews new renovation plans that will separate the house from the museum.

Program Speaker: John McKinnon

John McKinnon is the executive director of the Elmhurst Art Museum. He previously worked as the program director for the Art Institute of Chicago’s Society for Contemporary Art. Under his leadership, the society’s membership and biennial benefit revenue grew to new levels. From 2007 to 2010, John served as the assistant curator of modern and contemporary art at the Milwaukee Art Museum. He oversaw several exhibitions and coordinated programming and fundraising for the museum’s Contemporary Art Society.
